Vancouver Study & Work Testimonial: Felipe from Brazil

felipe casual work vancouver

Felipe at work during his Study & Work Program in Vancouver

Felipe is from Brazil and was enrolled in our Study & Work Program.

After obtaining his bachelor degree and working in various job positions for two years in Sao Paulo, Felipe decided to come to Vancouver (Canada) because he thought it was the best place to improve his English and to discover a lot of different cultures in the same city.

His adventure began with an intensive period of English study at one of our school partner located in downtown Vancouver. Six weeks prior to his job start date, he met with a STEPWEST placement coordinator to discuss his job expectations. After reviewing his Canadian-style resume, and going to a couple job interview preparation seminars, he was ready for real job interviews. He did a great job during his job interview, and was hired as a food counter attendant at Canada’s most iconic coffee chain; Tim Hortons.

As a part of our thorough monitoring, we went to see Felipe at his work two weeks ago (see pic above).  He really enjoyed his experience and the responsibilities he had there. His main duties were to take orders from the customers, handle cash register, and supervise the quality of the orders. Even though he was happy to interact with the clients, the most challenging part of his job was to understand customer’s orders in a fast paced environment.

Throughout this experience, he improved his English a lot, including his pronunciation skills  as well as learning how to interact with customers in an English environment. Without a doubt this experience will help him for his career once he is back in Brazil.

If you would like to take part of a similar adventure, where you can improve your English while earning money, take a look at our Working Holiday Program. If you have questions, please contact us at inquiry [@] stepwest.ca.

During the visit of French Prime Minister in Canada two weeks ago, Canada and France took the opportunity to sign a new Youth Mobility Agreement.

With the new Agreement, Canadian and French youth under the Working Holiday category will now be able to travel and work in the other country for a total period of up to 24 months (12 months before).

Participants under the co-op internship category, may benefit from an additional period of up to 12 months.

Winter is coming and the mountains are receiving their first coats of snow.  As the snowfall grows heavier, more and more ski resorts are getting ready to open!  This brings about a lot of job opportunities for everybody! Indeed, hotels, restaurants and shops in resorts are overbooked at this time of the year, which is why they hire more.

This is a great opportunity to work and have fun at the same time since most of the resorts give their staff free season passes and other perks so you can glide down the slopes during your spare time!

As  it ‘s difficult to get  detailed information on how to get a Canadian ski resort job over the Internet, STEPWEST has decided to publish a series of blog-posts over the next few weeks describing Canada’s top ski resorts. For each one, we will give you a list of good employers to work for, available job positions, perks (accommodation, season passes…) and pros and cons of the resort (night-life etc.).

Our Canada’s top 4 ski resorts guide will describe the following: Grouse Mountain (Vancouver), Whistler/Blackcomb,  Sunshine Village (Banff/Canmore) and Ski Marmot (Jasper)
