Felipe is from Brazil and was enrolled in our Study & Work Program.
After obtaining his bachelor degree and working in various job positions for two years in Sao Paulo, Felipe decided to come to Vancouver (Canada) because he thought it was the best place to improve his English and to discover a lot of different cultures in the same city.
His adventure began with an intensive period of English study at one of our school partner located in downtown Vancouver. Six weeks prior to his job start date, he met with a STEPWEST placement coordinator to discuss his job expectations. After reviewing his Canadian-style resume, and going to a couple job interview preparation seminars, he was ready for real job interviews. He did a great job during his job interview, and was hired as a food counter attendant at Canada’s most iconic coffee chain; Tim Hortons.
As a part of our thorough monitoring, we went to see Felipe at his work two weeks ago (see pic above). He really enjoyed his experience and the responsibilities he had there. His main duties were to take orders from the customers, handle cash register, and supervise the quality of the orders. Even though he was happy to interact with the clients, the most challenging part of his job was to understand customer’s orders in a fast paced environment.
Throughout this experience, he improved his English a lot, including his pronunciation skills as well as learning how to interact with customers in an English environment. Without a doubt this experience will help him for his career once he is back in Brazil.
