Chloé, from Taiwan, is a student currently participating in our Casual Job Program for 5 months.
She arrived in Canada to take part of a Study and Work Program at one of our ESL school partner; one of the best English school in Vancouver.
After studying intensive English, it was time for Chloe to start her job experience portion and put in practice what she had learned for the past 5 months at the school. After a couple meetings, Chloe explained to a STEPWEST coordinator that she was a “people person” and she enjoyed meeting new people, conversing with them. The job search was agreed to be towards customer service related job positions. After arranging her Canadian-style resume, and a couple interview preparation workshops, she was ready to go to job interviews.
She now works as a greeter for a well-known cruise company located in downtown Vancouver offering cruises all across North America from the Caribbean Islands to Alaska. Her daily duties includes greeting and helping passengers coming from all over the world before and after their boarding onto the cruise ship. It allows her to practice her English on a daily basis, even if some accents are still a mystery for her!
Chloe confirmed to us her English has significantly improved since she started working, but she also admitted that her months of study at the ESL school helped her reaching the required level to become a great team player.
